# eSIM Compatibility: Check Before You Buy

> Check whether your phone supports eSIM and is network-unlocked before purchasing a SimSIM plan. Most modern iPhones and Android flagships qualify.

SimSIM requires two things from your phone: eSIM capability and a network-unlocked status. Before you purchase a plan, take a minute to confirm both. If you buy a plan and then scan (activate) the QR code without checking first, you may find you're unable to use the eSIM on your device — and at that point a refund is no longer possible.

<Warning>
  Once you scan (activate) your QR code, the eSIM is considered delivered and refunds are not possible. Verify compatibility before purchasing.
</Warning>

## eSIM-compatible iPhones

The following iPhone models support eSIM:

* iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR
* iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
* iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
* iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
* iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
* iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
* iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max

> **Note:** iPhone 14 and later models sold in the United States are eSIM-only — they do not have a physical SIM tray at all.

## eSIM-compatible Android phones

Many popular Android flagships support eSIM, including:

* **Google Pixel:** Pixel 3 and later
* **Samsung Galaxy:** S20 series and later (most models — availability varies by region)
* **Motorola:** Selected Razr and Edge series flagships
* **Huawei:** Selected P and Mate series models (where Google services apply)
* **Sony:** Selected Xperia flagships
* **OnePlus:** Selected flagship models

eSIM availability can vary by region, carrier variant, and specific model. The most reliable way to confirm is to check your phone directly: go to **Settings** and look under **SIM cards** or **Mobile network** for an **Add eSIM** option. If you see it, your device is eSIM-capable.

## Network-unlocked requirement

<Tip>
  Your phone must be unlocked from your carrier. If you bought your phone directly from a carrier on a contract, contact them to request an unlock before traveling.
</Tip>

A carrier-locked phone can only use SIMs from that specific carrier, which means a SimSIM eSIM won't activate on it. Unlocking is usually free once your contract conditions are met — contact your carrier's customer support to request it.

## How to check if your phone supports eSIM

<Steps>
  <Step title="iOS">
    Go to **Settings → General → About**. Scroll down and look for **Available SIMs** or an **eSIM** entry. If you see it, your iPhone supports eSIM.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Android">
    Go to **Settings → Network & internet** (or **Connections** on Samsung). Tap **SIM cards** and look for an **Add eSIM** or **Download SIM** option. If the option is present, your device supports eSIM.
  </Step>
</Steps>
